Meet Our Founder Dr Adib Al Alawy
GDC NUMBER 76672
I’m Dr. Alawy, and I’ve been proudly serving patients in London for over 25 years. Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed countless patients traveling abroad for dental treatments, only to return with poor results such as over-shaved teeth, low-quality veneers, crowns, and substandard materials. To address this growing issue, I founded FixMySmile, the UK’s most affordable dental clinic. At FixMySmile, we provide high-quality, safe, and reliable treatments at prices that are even more affordable than many overseas clinics, ensuring patients don’t have to compromise their dental health for cost.
VENEERS WITHOUT THE SHAVING
Both laminate veneers and composite bonding (sometimes called composite veneers) are minimally invasive treatments that typically don’t require shaving your teeth. However, laminate veneers, made from high-quality Emax porcelain, are far superior. They mimic natural teeth with their translucency and textured finish, providing a more lifelike appearance. Unlike composite, which can stain and lasts 3-5 years, Emax laminate veneers are stain-resistant and durable, lasting 10 – 15 years + with proper care. However, whether you’re a candidate for laminate veneers or composite bonding without teeth preparation depends on your teeth’s alignment and bite.

FAQ
Invisalign is a brand of clear aligners used as an alternative to traditional metal braces. They are custom-made for each patient to help straighten teeth over time. Invisalign aligners are designed using 3D imaging technology to fit snugly over your teeth. They gradually shift your teeth into the desired position through a series of aligners, each typically worn for about two weeks.
Laminate Emax veneers are ultra-thin veneers that can often be placed without shaving down your teeth, provided your alignment and bite are suitable. Made from premium Emax porcelain, they offer a natural look with excellent translucency and texture, mimicking real teeth. They are durable, stain-resistant, and longer-lasting compared to composite bonding.
Emax veneers are made from high-quality porcelain and are the most popular veneer option due to their natural appearance and durability. While they may require minor tooth preparation (unlike laminate veneers) this is nothing like the aggressive shaving associated with “Turkey teeth” crowns. Instead, it involves subtle contouring to ensure a perfect fit, depending on your alignment and bite.
Composite bonding, sometimes referred to as composite veneers, is a cost-effective treatment to repair or enhance the appearance of teeth. While it’s a good option for minor changes, it doesn’t last as long as Emax veneers, can stain over time, and doesn’t replicate the natural look of teeth as effectively.
The best option depends on your specific needs, such as the condition of your teeth, alignment, and bite. Laminate Emax veneers are ideal for those seeking a minimally invasive option, while traditional Emax veneers are perfect for those who need more substantial corrections. Composite bonding is suitable for more budget-conscious patients who need minor improvements.
“Turkey teeth” treatments are risky because they often involve excessive shaving of natural teeth to create pegs for crowns. This aggressive approach can permanently weaken teeth, leading to sensitivity, nerve damage, or the need for root canals. Over-shaving also reduces the lifespan of your teeth, increasing the likelihood of needing extensive dental work in the future. Opting for safer, minimally invasive treatments like veneers or composite bonding ensures your natural teeth are preserved while still achieving a beautiful smile.
Treatment duration varies based on individual needs but typically ranges from 6 to 18 months. Your dentist will provide an estimated treatment timeline during your consultation.
The main difference between veneers and crowns lies in the coverage and purpose of each treatment. Veneers are thin shells, typically made from porcelain or composite, that cover only the front surface of the teeth. They are primarily used for cosmetic purposes, such as improving the shape, size, or color of teeth, while preserving most of the natural tooth structure.
Crowns, on the other hand, cover the entire tooth and are used to restore teeth that are significantly damaged, decayed, or weakened. They require more tooth preparation than veneers, as a larger portion of the tooth must be shaved down to accommodate the crown. Crowns provide both cosmetic and structural benefits, making them suitable for teeth that need reinforcement, while veneers are ideal for less invasive aesthetic enhancements.
Porcelain emax veneers last 15 years+, while composite veneers last 7 years+. However, taking good care of your veneers and attending regular check ups with your dentist can increase the lifespan of your veneers.
Porcelain veneers (E-max & Laminate veneers) do not stain, due to the material they are made of. However, Composite veneers are prone to staining over their life span from poor oral hygiene, smoking and foods such as; coffee, tea and red wine.
